Subaru Hosts Free Pet Shop
MOTOR IMAGE NEWS CSR EFFORTS

APRIL 2015

Subaru joins National Geographic Channel and animal welfare groups in hosting Singapore’s largest dog-adoption event.

For the third year running, National Geographic Channel (NGC) organised the Free Pet Shop, Singapore’s largest dog-adoption drive, which took place on 4 and 5 October at Big Splash, East Coast Park, from noon to 6pm this year. It featured about 150 dogs from eight participating no-kill dog shelters, including Action for Singapore Dogs, Animal Lovers League, Save Our Street Dogs and Uncle Khoe’s K9 Shelter.

This was Subaru’s second year partnering the NGC in promoting responsible pet ownership and helping dogs find families. Hannah Tan, Deputy General Manager-Group Marketing Division of Motor Image Group, said, “Coming from a brand philosophy which delivers products that loves and protects customers like man’s best friend, it seemed natural for us to continue our support for National Geographic Channel and the community to find loving homes for our homeless furry friends.”

The NGC Free Pet Shop was packed with exciting activities and workshops for potential and current dog owners, such as a Singapore Special Dog Show that highlighted the beauty of mixed-breed dogs, and a Dog Sports programme that challenged the fitness and agility of dogs. It was also a good opportunity for animal lovers to learn more about the processes of dog adoption and the support network of pet-care services available in Singapore.

Subaru joined in the fun by giving out customised doggy licence tags, printing Instagram photos for those taking selfies at the event, and arranging for a sketch artist to draw caricatures for dog owners and their beloved pets during the weekend. Subaru also built Singapore’s largest dog water dish for hot and thirsty canines to get some respite from the heat.

It was a most meaningful time for everyone involved, as many dogs made friends and gained new homes that day, thanks to the combined efforts of NGC, industry players the likes of The Barkery SG and A Pawz Dog Sports Academy, as well as community partners such as the Agri-Food & Veterinary Authority of Singapore and Mount Pleasant Veterinary Group.
